Position DescriptionThis document describes the qualifications and
responsibilities for the Faith Formation Director for which St.
Luke Lutheran Church is currently recruiting.TITLE: FAITH FORMATION
DIRECTORCLASSIFICATION: Full-timePURPOSEThe Faith Formation
Director is responsible for accompanying youth in striving to
become stewards of Christ's abundance through living in
relationship with God and each other, discovering spiritual gifts
and using them to bless the world. Specifically, the Faith
Formation Director is responsible for developing St. Luke's youth
ministry in such a way that it challenges middle through high
school students to grow in the pure grace of God, and empowers the
students to live as followers in every facet of their
lives.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead Youth Ministry programs (Middle School and High School),
including, Sunday meetings, special events, midweek gatherings, and
Confirmation.
- Research (or write if needed) curriculum for all ministry areas
in consultation with Pastors, developing lessons consistent with
faith development.
- Develop content and administer youth programs.
- Oversee schedule of youth programs and family groups.
- Promote and communicate youth programs to the congregation and
wider community.
- Direct and supervise volunteers, ensuring that all volunteers
are trained and background checked.
- Operate and facilitate day-to-day tasks to programs
listed.
- Regularly communicate with parents of youth in programs
regarding registration, attendance and assignments.
- Recruit, train and equip adult leaders with everything the
leaders need to serve as faithful, committed leaders in St. Luke's
youth ministry.
- Coordinate and organize volunteer schedules for weekly evening,
Sunday morning, and special event youth programs.
- Plan and execute the following youth programs: Seasonal Youth
and Family Events, Holiday Programs, retreats, youth groups,
overnights, camps, service trips, and other programs as may be
developed in consultation with Pastors.
- Plan and lead service events throughout the year to help youth
put the faith into action.
- Coordinate and communicate food/meals for programs as
needed.
- Work with staff and congregational leadership to integrate
children and youth into the worship life of the congregation. This
includes the planning and implementation (alongside pastors) for
faith milestones such as: Confirmation, youth-led worship services,
and High School Graduation.
- Participate actively in the worship life of St. Luke.
- Attend weekly staff meetings, manage Youth Ministry budgets and
work with Pastors to set goals in line with St. Luke's vision.
- Manage the St. Luke Youth social media and messaging accounts
(Instagram, etc.).
- Build connections and relationships with youth and families
regularly via various means (phone, text, social media, in-person
visits).
- Faith formation co-op liaison/lead.OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write newsletter articles, weekly email updates, and Annual
Report to the Council.
- Maintain regular communication and consulting with Associate
Pastor to coordinate efforts for middle and high school youth
groups and be a support of that ministry whenever needed.
- Counsel and meet with parents, especially during times of
crisis.
- Disciple students through their development of leadership.
- Serve as staff contact for youth and family related
groups.MINIMUM WORKING RELATIONSHIPSThe Faith Formation Director
meets with the Pastors, staff and lay people to develop the faith
of leaders and youth. The Faith Formation Director works closely
with the Associate Pastor to plan and lead confirmation and
coordinate youth group activities.The Faith Formation Director is
encouraged to participate in various continuing education events in
the fields of Children's and Youth Ministry.WORK
ENVIRONMENTRequires flexibility in hours available for work,
including evenings and weekends, and overnight travel. Requires
active physical participation in activities, in various weather
conditions, including but not limited to rafting, camping, hiking,
participating in energetic games, and outdoor service
projects.KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- College degree required, a degree of certification in
Children's and/or Youth Ministry desired.
- 2-3 years' experience in children's and/or youth ministry
preferred.
- A thorough understanding of Lutheran theology and ELCA
tradition is required.
- Must possess a strong understanding of adolescent and young
adult development to effectively support and address the needs of
the program participants.
- Demonstrates strong skills in effectively managing and engaging
middle school and high school youth in a supportive and loving
manner.
- Knowledge of Lutheran Reconciling in Christ (RIC) principles
and their application in fostering an inclusive and welcoming
environment.
- Must possess a deep repertoire of activities and skills
designed to engage and motivate middle and high school
students.CORE COMPETENCIES

training.

- Biblical and/or theological understanding.
- Ability to pass a background screening.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe
