Function/Duties of PositionThe appointee shall provide services
as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university's
missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach
and public service.This position reports to (supervisor): Dr. Helmi
Lutsep, MD, Interim Chair, Department of NeurologyThe duties of
this position include:The Division Head of Aging, Alzheimer's and
Related Disorders, will apply a strong and proven commitment to
excellence in research, education, and the delivery of care. They
will provide an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g.
quality of investigation for research faculty; quality of clinical
care for clinical faculty). Professional performance is delivered
in a manner compliant with regulations and guidelines of all
relevant bodies (i.e. DNV, Center for Medicare and Medicaid, OHSU
IRB, NIH, and all other state, federal and institutional regulatory
guidelines). They will have hiring authority and will manage the
division's financial resources. Substantial opportunities await the
next Division Head to further develop and grow the division,
including the following initiatives:
- Develop and execute a strategic vision for the division
- Advocate for, mentor, and develop faculty
- Build and expand the division's clinical enterprise
- Further enhance research
- Foster fellowship program
- Foster and enhance collaboration within the department and
across the universityYou will be expected to contribute in each of
the following areas:
- Administration (30%): Partnering with Department leadership, as
Division Head, you will be expected to lead the advancement of the
division in all mission areas - clinical, education, and research
activities. These objectives will include fiscal oversight of the
division, mentorship and career development for division faculty,
successful faculty recruitments and other academic goals to be
determined with the Chair. The appointment as Division Head is an
administrative role and will be reviewed annually.
- Clinical (70%): You will be expected to be clinically active
proportional to your clinical FTE. To start, we anticipate clinical
effort to be 6 half-day clinic sessions per week. Clinical FTE
could be reduced in the future, depending on additional funded
roles.
- Research (0%): It is expected you will both make a good faith
effort to move your existing grants, and successfully pursue
externally funded research. You will also be expected to attend
national research meetings and establish collaborations with
investigators in your field, both internal and external to
OHSU.
- Education: OHSU is a teaching facility and you will be expected
to teach medical students, residents, and fellows in the clinical
setting as well as through assigned lectures to be given during the
course of the year.Required Qualifications
- An MD (or equivalent) or MD/PHD, board certified or board
eligible in neurology, and eligible for medical licensing in the
state of Oregon
- An accomplished academic career with a thriving research
program in an area relevant to aging and Alzheimer's.
- A skilled clinician.
- The vision to create and implement a sophisticated strategic
agenda, collaborate across a complex organization, and encourage
and develop collaborative research.
- A collaborative leadership style.
- The ability to recruit, inspire, and lead a diverse group of
practitioners, with different backgrounds, to work in alignment
with the mission of OHSU in the areas of clinical care, research,
and education.
- The ability to develop and communicate a compelling vision and
to be a diplomatic, persuasive, and credible voice to a wide
variety of audiences, including the philanthropic community.
- The ability to set a high standard and continually strive for
collective excellence in clinical care, research, and
education.
- To be a model of excellence, and to lead in a manner consistent
with OHSU core values.Preferred Qualifications
- An accomplished academic career with a thriving research
program, and a track record in scholarly achievement and prior
success in obtaining extramural funding
- Ability to articulate an exciting vision and to collaborate and
build trust with a diverse group of stakeholders
- Strong acumen and judgment in managing financial resources and
the ability to develop and implement budgets effectively, aligning
resources with strategic priorities
- Understanding of, and enthusiasm for, the tripartite mission of
OHSU, along with knowledge of the culture of academic medical
institutions in general
- A model of excellence, and ability to lead in a manner
consistent with OHSU core values.
